Excerpt of an excerpt?
The following is taken from the book Soul Force by Reesheda Graham-Washington and Shawn Casselberry. I am only 21 pages into the book, so I cannot yet fully “recommend” it to anyone. However, what I have read so far- I would recommend. I share this with you, I share this with myself.
I literally had just finished a prayer to help me seek the Creator, and turned left- saw the book and opened it up. This excerpt is on page 22, and I did not read from page 21 to 22, it had just fell open to page 22 – the page after my bookmark. OK, enough explaining-
A SOUL FORCE PRAYER
This prayer is by Howard Thurman, a minister, theologian, and civil rights activist who was committed to nonviolence and building beloved community. Let this be our prayer and rallying cry as we begin this journey toward soul force.
Lord, open unto me
Open unto me – light for my darkness.
Open unto me – courage for my fear.
Open unto me – hope for my despair.
Open unto me – peace for my turmoil.
Open unto me – joy for my sorrow.
Open unto me – strength for my weakness.
Open unto me – wisdom for my confusion.
Open unto me – forgiveness for my sins.
Open unto me – love for my hates.
Open unto me – thy Self for my self.
Lord, Lord, open unto me!
Howard Thurman, Meditations of the Heart (1981)
